The artist; purchased 1811 by Benjamin Chew Wilcocks [1776-1845], Philadelphia;[1] probably by inheritance to his sister, Mary Wilcocks (Mrs. Charles) Ingersoll [1784-1862], Philadelphia; probably by inheritance in the family to the Misses Hutchinson, Philadelphia, by 1921;[2] (Renaissance Galleries, Philadelphia); purchased 1949 by the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington; acquired 2015 by the National Gallery of Art.
