Artwork history & notes
Provenance
(Sale Paris, Hotel Drouot, May 1907, no. 42, as Interieur de Parc, no owner given). (Sale Paris, Hotel Drouot, 18 December 1908, no. 21, as Vue dans un Parc, no owner given). Richard Owen, Paris; [1] Samuel H. Kress 1937 New York; gift 1963 to the National Gallery of Art.
[1] Under the entry for this work in Kress Collection Catalogue European Paintings Excluding Italian, footnote 4 suggests that the work was possibly in an exhibition in Paris: Petit Palais, Le Paysage français de Poussin à Corot, 1926; which included works lent by Mme Veuve A. Doucet and M. Doucet. However, due to the ambiguity of arbitrary titles given to works, it is uncertain which of the drawings listed in that exhibit could be this specific work. Moreover, the only work by Moreau listed as owned by Doucet is a river landscape: Paysage, Une rivière avec de petits personnages.
