Watercolors and Drawings by Gavarni

Details

Overview: 50 works were on view by the 19th-century French artist Paul Gavarni, better known in the United States for his humorous lithographs. 42 were lent by the Walters Art Gallery in Baltimore from its large Paul Gavarni collection, assembled by William T. Walters and his friend George A. Lucas. Some had been purchased directly from the artist. The exhibition was supplemented by 53 French 19th-century prints and 6 drawings from the Rosenwald collection. It was organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service and circulated to 10 other museums.
