Overview: On view were 13 portraits and a life mask of Thomas Jefferson, executed from 1786 to 1826. In addition, 20 portraits of his friends and contemporaries were shown, as well as architectural drawings by Jefferson and photographs of buildings he had designed. Also included were a set of portraits of the first 5 presidents by Gilbert Stuart. The collection had belonged to the T. Jefferson Coolidge family and was subsequently acquired by the Gallery. The exhibition commemorated the 200th anniversary of Jefferson's birth.
